Context Health

Case Study: GenesisCare

Background

GenesisCare (GC) has 14 outpatient cancer-specialist centres located across England. The private provider offers highly specialised cancer treatments to patients with a range of cancer types. The team approached us at CONTEXT Health as they were looking for a multidisciplinary team meeting (MDT) solution to streamline the patient clinical pathway flows.

The Issues

The clinical teams covering as all relevant cancer specialties are based across England and there were problems ‘getting the right people in the right room looking at the right data’. Solutions such as MS Teams and Zoom lacked specific healthcare audit capabilities which have since been highlighted in the Ian Paterson Enquiry Report. Clinical pathways were delayed due to a lack of a coherent approach to the problem.

The Solution

CONTEXT MDT was initially trialled in 2018 with GC and after 6 months, the platform was formally adopted for use across the whole of England. The KPI’s that were assessed and included the following:
  • 25% reduction in clinical pathway length (diagnosis-to-decision phase).
  • Validated robust audit trail of activity within the MDT surpassing current NHS standards.
  • Positive clinician engagement across the specialties due to ease of use
  • Simple onboarding of clinical teams and efficient management of MDTs across specialties.
  • Administration costs drastically reduced, as a result of built-in system automation.

Where we are today

Since adoption, GC has continued to increase the numbers of MDT case reviews and breadth of specialties to cover their whole network. The provider now performs in excess of 25 MDT meetings per week, 7 days a week, as the need requires, both live videoconference and asynchronous. There is now a dedicated internal coordinator team managing the platform and the clinicians who use it, with our assistance as required which is now the odd 3rd line level query. GC are currently assessing the CONTEXT Radiology module which will further assist the clinicians in making rapid, effective decisions for their patients going forward.
